Steamcon!!

Ok boys and girls today we are going to explore my experience at Steamcon this last weekend!! I shall do my utmost to do it justice since I am still sleep deprived and running on pure caffeine(whats new right?) Anywho I am going to give you the long detailed account and you had better like it! :) My adventures started at the ass crack of dawn on Friday since I had to traverse high seas and long roads to get there and along the way I picked up my friend Marie-Claude Bourque since we were both bad girls and procrastinated long enough to miss out on on-line registration for Steamcon and there was serious talk of it being sold out soon! Of course since we were on a time deadline so we could get there and in line early enough to hopefully get a weekend pass…..I got lost……this is not anything new for me…..I am really, really directionally challenged. The moral of the story is don’t ask me along on any exploratory expeditions! Anywho, we finally found it after a nice scenic tour of the surrounding area and once inside the hotel we asked directions to the registration desk and then proceeded to wander around somehow becoming lost inside the building(in my defense I wasn’t the only one getting lost in that hotel!), so we finally find registration and there is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong line! After four hours and some serious worrying that we would infact miss out on all the steampunk goodness, we got our passes!! Cue fun times now! We met up with some other friends of ours Deb Schneider and Gayle Ann Williams and we all headed to get coffee so we could be properly caffeinated and ready to participate in the fun! There were tons of people there from all age ranges and almost everyone was dressed up, which was AWESOME! There was so much variety in everyone’s costumes I took way too many pictures, I will include a sampling here, but if you want to see all of them just follow this linkand peruse at your leisure! I attended some fabulous panels and got seriously inspired for ways to enhance the paranormal/steampunk romance I am currently writing! I met some amazing people and had some stimulating conversation and this was all in the first few hours! The steampunk band Abney Park did a really fun sing along that was a mini concert with some fun added bits, like the song about a willy……and chitty, chitty, bang, bang!!! It was hilarious and endeared Abney Park to me forever!!! I perused the plethora of AMAZING vendors and talked some more….I am really, really good at it!! I finished off the night at the Steamcon dance which was soooo fun!! I also got water poured down the front of my corset by the lovely and talented Jodi Lee from Abney Park, it was pretty funny.  My friend Deb and I stayed out way too late, but it was well worth it!! Woke up bright and shiny the next morning and headed back into the delightful fray!! I was bummed out because due to my aforementioned procrastination on registering I also didn’t get tickets for the tea and couture event that featured a fashion show and I was majorly bummed! Whilst traversing the hallways though I met up with a fabulous new acquaintance from the previous night the Lord Baron Joseph C.R. Vourtequ. While were conversing I lamented not being able to attend the fashion show, he being the gentleman that he is he offered me his extra ticket! So we were then off to enjoy tea and fashion for the next few hours! It was a decadent experience and I captured it all with my camera! :) After the tea I spent more time cavorting with mad scientists, an emperor and several other awesome individuals! That night was the airship invasion concert and it was FANTASTIC! The concert featured Unwoman, The Vernian Process and Abney Park and fun was had by all!! What isn’t to love about music and dancing? Denying my weariness after the four awesome hours of the concert I headed off to the dance once more with Deb(we decided sleep is for the uninteresting!) and my new friends Baron Joseph and the time traveler Michael! We once again danced ourselves to exhaustion loving every minute of it!! The third and final day was more of the sae awesomeness and I should probably end this blog post before I achieve the word count of a short novel!! To sum it up…Steamcon ROCKED and if you get the chance to go……DO IT…..I know I will be there with bells and goggles on!! ~Elizabeth

It was awesome! I tricked out my lovely gun some more - and my son told me we should be making props for movies! I’m so excited that I get to wear my costume again tomorrow for the staff Halloween party.

Then maybe I’ll get my husband to take me to dinner at the Woodman’s Lodge - and get that shot next to the steam train.

    Hugs to you, Darlin’

Rockin’! Or maybe combo rockin’ and punkin’ :) Sadly, I believe I am too fashion challenged to be steampunk. Le sigh.

    Lady Elizabeth,

It was great to meet you at SteamCon… I stumbled across your way cool blog and found it great to hear of your perspective of the weekend events which are very similar to my own. I am honoured to see the photograph we took incorporated in your blog and you have inspired me to create some sort of record of the fantastic experience too. I am new to steampunk but knew that I had to be a part of this First Event so I readied my Airship and flew cross the continent to participate. It was more and better than I could have imagined!!! There were so many creative and wonderful people. I saw a reflection of familiarity and recognition in each and every person I met and consider all (even the Airship Pirates, at least temporarily) my friend. Should you ever find yourself in need of an Airship… Sky Marshall Gideon Alexander Cornelius Thaddeus Prime is at your service.

Until next we meet Fair Skies and Favorable Winds…
